Trail Rules for

 The Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship

 

As guests of the BRCES, please respect the following policies:

 

BEFORE THE RIDE

 

§         All trail tag holders must have a current USTR Liability Release  on file

§         All minor trail tag holders (under the age of 18) must be accompanied by an adult trail tag holder

§         Participate in a mandatory orientation ride to receive trail tag and learn the trails

§         Attach trail tag to tack or clothing so it is visible at all times

§         Bring a current negative Coggins every time

§         Guest riders are not allowed - no exceptions - all riders at BRCES must be USTR members in good standing and have purchased a BRCES trail tag for the current year

§         Leave cats and dogs at home as well as firearms, alcoholic beverages, drugs

§         Review USTR Good Neighbor Code of Conduct for Trail Riding

 

 DURING THE RIDE

 

§         Wear a hard hat or helmet at all times when mounted

§         Ride with respect for the land

o       Stay on trails designated for horses

o       Avoid cultivated fields - this means fields with crops planted 

o       Refrain from riding after heavy rainfalls - mud + hooves = erosion

o       Close any gates one is allowed to open

o       Ride only on Sundays and per posted BRCES hunting schedule during deer hunting season

o       Do not ride in old lake beds

§         Ride with courtesy for other riders and hikers

o       Maintain control of your horse

o       Pass others safely at a walk

o       No smoking or littering

o       Supervise children at all times

§         Ride with respect for the horse

o       Provide sound and humane treatment at all times

 

AFTER THE RIDE

 

§         Participate in designated trail work days

§         Report fires, vandalism, unsafe conditions, injured livestock to USTR representative Gary White 703-431-9536 or BRCES representative 540-668-7640.
